In December 2000, the Federal Government amended the Privacy Act 1988 so that it applies to most private sector organisations as well as public sector agencies which were covered by the existing Act.
The National Privacy Principles in the Act set out how private sector organisations such as Specsavers Collins Place should collect, use, keep secure and disclose personal information.
In accordance with these National Privacy Principles, Specsavers Collins Place has adopted the following policy with regard to your personal information.
COLLECTION Specsavers Collins Place will collect information in a fair, lawful and not intrusive manner. Should you require, you will be told the purpose of the collection, and be given access to your personal information.
USE & DISCLOSURE Specsavers Collins Place will only use or disclose information for the purpose it was collected unless you have consented otherwise, or unless another secondary purpose is related to the primary purpose (for example, if you are referred to an ophthalmologist or a report is written to your GP).
DATA QUALITY Specsavers Collins Place will take all reasonable steps to ensure that personal information collected, used or disclosed is accurate, complete and up-to-date.
DATA SECURITY Specsavers Collins Place will take all reasonable steps to protect the personal information held from misuse and loss and from unauthorised access, modification or disclosure.
OPENNESS This document serves as Specsavers Collins Place's policy document outlining information-handling practices, and this document is available to anyone who requests it.
ACCESS & CORRECTION Generally speaking, Specsavers Collins Place will give an individual access to personal information it holds about that individual on request.
IDENTIFIERS Specsavers Collins Place will not adopt, use or disclose, an identifier that has been assigned by a Commonwealth government agency.
ANONYMITY Specsavers Collins Place will give people the option to interact anonymously whenever it is lawful and practicable to do so.
TRANSBORDER DATA FLOWS Specsavers Collins Place will only transfer personal information to a recipient in a foreign country in circumstances where the information will have appropriate protection.
SENSITIVE INFORMATION Specsavers Collins Place will not collect sensitive information unless you have consented; or it is required by law; or in other special specified circumstances, for example relating to health services provision and individual or public health safety.
