Our History

> Olden Days
Our practice dates back to 1860 when James Jennings Opticare was formed.  We later merged with Occleshaw & Jennings (formed in 1932) and with Besley & Dalins (formed in 1935).  In 1985 we moved to the Collins Place Professional Suites.

> Our Current Location

We moved to our current prominent retail position within Collins Place late in 2001, which brought about many changes in our equipment, frame displays and staffing levels.  Extensive computerisation created a "paperless" practice.
The then Eyecare Collins Place was an inaugural member of the ProVision Eyecare Network, which was formed in 1989. More recently, the practice was one of the first to achieve accreditation from the Victorian College of Optometry.

> Joining the Specsavers Rovlution

The arrival of Specsavers in Australia in 2008 sees major changes to the local optical market, in particular the introduction of global efficiences.  Our joining the Specavers revolution as the very first Australian franchisee means a significant improvement in the value for money we can provide and far more affordable eyewear, with greater choice and many designer brands from overseas.

> Where We're Headed

Such a long history might suggest we are stuck in the past, but the reality is far from this!  Our practice features the latest, from clinical equipment (such as our digital imaging suite) through to frame fashions from around the world and the most technically advanced contact lenses.
